This is a hypoallergenic breed with an exceptionally stable temperament
that is fierce of mane towards foes and yet gentle of manner towards
family, friends and livestock-- which is dependant upon your training
and desired level of socialization. In addition to being extraordinarily
stable with children and livestock, the Tibetan Mastiff can be trained
for search and rescue. They can also be trained for therapy work. Kesang
Camp guarantees their sound temperament, genetic health, agility and
size; which is conditioned upon proper socialization, nutrition, and
exercise. Our mission is to only breed the best TMs (that are 26 to 31
plus inches at the shoulders) in which to serve the authentic Tsang Khyi
Tibetan Mastiff function. Not to be confused with the subvariant,
miniature (23 to 26 inch) Do Khyi TM’s! This breed marched in Genghis
Khan’s armies as messenger dogs. Marco Polo described their size as
being “tall as a donkey with a voice like a lion.” Kesang Camp firmly
believes, based upon Tibet’s minimal donkey “size for function
requirement” of being capable of killing wolves and snow leopards in
defense of family and livestock, any subvariant Do Khyi TM that is
shorter than 26 inches (the shortest recorded donkey) should be
considered a severe breed standard fault and disqualified from breeding
and showing as a purebred Tibetan Mastiff. In addition to the miniature
Do Khyi TM’s, it is estimated that 50% of modern breeds are subvariants
descending from the pure breed Tsang Khyi Tibetan mastiff.
